My Favorite Beauty Products in 2014

Firstly, I want to apologize for being MIA for the last couple of weeks. I was actually out of the country for half of January (I'll have a post up on Sunday with more details), and also recently just started a new semester at school. Anyway, I thought I'd do something a little different this time, and stray away from my usual fashion posts and into beauty. Prior to 2014, I barely used any makeup products. My everyday makeup routine consisted of black eyeliner, a tinted lip balm, and maybe some concealer if I was feeling ambitious. However, about a year ago, I started getting into the world of YouTube (late to the party, I know), and fell in love with several beauty bloggers. Their videos inspired me to dabble more into the world of beauty and makeup, and I am glad I did. Here are a few of my favorite products from the year:

Psssst! Dry Shampoo

Psssst! Dry Shampoo

This product has been a game changer for me. For the longest time, I had hair that tended to get greasy easily (lovely I know), and thus washed my hair every single day. Although this stripped out the grease, it dried out my hair as well. Ever since discovering this product, I now wash my hair every other day, whilst still keeping it fresh-looking and grease-free in between washes. It has a faint but pleasant scent, and is invisible when massaged into the scalp.

Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue Eau de Parfum

According to the product description, this fragrance is "an elegant bouquet of lilac, linden blossom, dewy magnolia and muquet is interwoven with exotic mandarin and bergamot for an expression of pure, sparkling sophistication." With a description like that, how could one resist? The perfume is quite floral, yet a bit more mature than other fragrances I've used in the past. I'd highly recommend this fragrance for those who love light and fresh fragrances, but want something with a bit more sophistication.

Lips and Face: NYX Matte Lipstick in Alabama, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Sand, and Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso
NYX Matte Lipstick, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, Milani Baked Blush
If you've been following my blog, chances are you've seen these products in action. I think I'm wearing a combination, if not all, of these products in all the photos I've posted here. I love a classic matte red lip, and it doesn't get any better than "Alabama" by NYX. It's quite a dark red, but I think it is a statement bold lip that is perfect for both the daytime and the evening. The formula is also great - I can eat and drink through the night and not get any weird splotches on my lips. My go-to concealer for blemishes would be the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. It has a creamy consistency that can be used for both spots and under the eyes. Finally, my favorite blush has to be this baked blush from Milani. It's a coral-y peachy pink with a hint of golden shimmer. It adds a nice flush of color, as well as highlight, and instantly brightens up your entire face.

LORAC PRO Palette
This is the holy grail of eyeshadow palettes. I never really wore shadow prior to owning this palette, but this has made me an eyeshadow convert. All of the colors in this palette are very pigmented, smooth, and wearable. My favorites are: Espresso, Sable, Taupe, and Pewter. In my opinion, this is the only eyeshadow palette you'll ever need.

Revlon Brow Fantasy
I stumbled upon this product by accident when I forgot to bring my brow products on a trip, and found myself at a Duane Reade in search for an alternative. I previously used a brush and powder, but this pencil/gel combo makes filling in your brows so much easier. The pencil is perfect for filling in sparse areas (or drawing in half of your brow like me), and the gel on the other end makes setting your eyebrows quick and simple. The color is a good match for me, and looks very natural - something very important when it comes to brow products! Another thing I like is that it is very portable, and much easier to carry around in your handbag compared to a brush and powder/gel.
